Job Description

Background: The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is tostrengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectiousdiseases through research and capacity development. IDI has six operationalareas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care andTreatment; Training, Global Health Security, Research and Laboratory services(provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John HopkinsUniversity Core Lab) and Outreach.
In order to achieve the above objectives, IDI seeks to recruit motivated andcompetent candidates as indicated below;

Job Title : Logistics officer Vacancy Code : LOX01 Classification : Fulltime Reporting : JMEDICC Site Coordinator Duty Station : Kampala

General Summary: The holder of this position will be a multi-skilled personwho will support the JMEDICC Site Coordinator and different project thematicareas according to need. He/she will work closely with the Logistics team atthe JMEDICC warehouse in Nakasero, the team in Fort Portal and the Procurementteam at IDI to ensure timely submission of procurement requests, tracking ofall purchases and Inventory and Stock management to support areas related toclinical care, Infection control and microbiology services. The person willalso be expected to support JMEDICC mobile operations at the various locationsin the country including but not limited to Kampala, and Fort Portal.

Specific responsibilities: · Monitor orders in the pipeline and update the JMEDICCsite coordinator ·In collaboration with the JMEDICC site coordinator support establishment andmaintenance of a procurements tracking system and filing of the necessarypaperwork for all purchases · Work closely with the Logistics team from MUWRP tocoordinate preparation and distribution of supplies in support of management ofsporadic outbreaks both at Fort Portal and other locations outside Fort Portal ·Coordinate courier services for emergency transportation of supplies betweenFort Portal and Kampala · Support the Logistics team at the various JMEDICCstorage areas and actively participate in provision ofweekly/monthly/quarterly/annual updates

Working experience, Knowledge & skills · Minimum of two years’experience working with health systems strengthening projects ·Working experience in institutional development and conversant working with MOHsystems. ·Familiar with the laboratory working environment and be prepared to be trainedin Biosafety and Biosecurity and for certification in international sampletransportation (IATA) · Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance,one-on-one mentoring and small group training sessions · Principles and Conceptsof M&E, good report writing and communication skills

Events Management · Participate in conducting awareness campaigns, events,information dissemination workshops, etc. for target groups. ·Participate in organizing project’s events and commemorations for example theWorld HIV Vaccine Awareness and World AIDS days. · Support photography needs
Stakeholder Database: · Contribute to the development, management andmaintenance of the stakeholder’s contact list for active participation in IDIevents. ·Participate in disseminating communication materials to relevant stakeholders.
Social media management · Support the flow of content to IDI social media outletssuch as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. · Develop spotlight piecesfor posting on the website to promote IDI visibility and work ·Monitor and track viewership on all social media channels so as to supportquarterly reporting
Media relations: ·Participating in mobilizing media for press conferences, media trainings,science cafes etc.
Developing IEC materials · Participate in updating content found in all IDIprogrammatic Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials. ·Support the documentation of program success stories and the compilation ofIDI’s annual report ·Work closely with procurement team to follow up the production and delivery ofmaterials with selected vendors/suppliers
Video Production: ·Participate in the development of short videos, which shall be used as contentfor IDI vlogs.
Educational requirements:
·Bachelors degree in Mass communication or Journalism or related field. · PostGraduate training in media or other relevant field is an added advantage.
